Applying for a job that you are underqualified for

When it comes to filling out job application forms you need to consider if you have all the relevant qualifications and experience that they ask for, but if you don’t you still may be able to apply.

It often depends on what job you are going for. Some jobs state that you be qualified to a certain level such as teachers and doctors, those jobs are the ones where you really do need the qualifications they are asking for. Other jobs may state that they would like you to be AAT qualified or have an A level in Chemistry for example. If you feel that you have the relevant experience or that you have all the other skills they have asked for then there is no harm in applying for the position.

If you are offered an interview then you can explain in greater detail as to why you think you are suitable for the job and you may even consider taking a pay cut until you are qualified to the standard they are looking for. This often looks good to a potential employer as it shows them that you are willing to learn.
